The Holy Spirit is not an impersonal force or spiritual atmosphere. He is fully God, eternally one with the Father and the Son, and personally present with God’s people.
Christians across denominational traditions affirm the Spirit’s present work while describing some experiences and gifts differently. Every claim and experience must be tested by Scripture and direct attention to Jesus Christ.
01Is the Holy Spirit a person and fully God?
Scripture speaks of the Spirit teaching, guiding, speaking, willing, grieving, and bearing witness. These are personal actions, not descriptions of an impersonal power.
He shares the divine identity and works inseparably with the Father and the Son in creation, salvation, sanctification, mission, and worship.
02How does the Spirit work in every believer?
The Spirit convicts of sin, brings new birth, indwells believers, assures them of adoption, produces Christlike fruit, illuminates Scripture, and empowers obedience.
No Christian belongs to Christ without the Spirit. Dependence upon Him is therefore central to ordinary Christian life, not reserved for dramatic moments.
03What is baptism in the Holy Spirit?
Christians agree that the Holy Spirit indwells believers and empowers the Church for holy living, witness, worship, and service. They differ over whether baptism in the Spirit is best understood as part of conversion or as a distinct empowering experience, and over how speaking in tongues relates to it.
Those differences should lead us back to careful study rather than suspicion or spiritual superiority. Seek the Spirit’s fullness, welcome every gift God gives, test teaching and experience by Scripture, and pursue the fruit, unity, holiness, and mission that honor Christ.
04How should spiritual gifts and guidance be practiced?
The Spirit distributes gifts for the common good. Their use must honor Christ, build the church, operate in love, and remain accountable to biblical order and discernment.
The Spirit never contradicts the Word He inspired. Guidance should be tested through Scripture, prayer, wise counsel, character, and the confirming life of the church.
