Rejecting euphemism, self-righteousness, and despair through gospel-shaped repentance

The words we choose can conceal responsibility. We can rename greed as ambition, cruelty as honesty, lust as appreciation, gossip as concern, or bitterness as discernment.
But harsh labels can also become weapons aimed at other people. Gospel truth begins with our own sin, names it according to Scripture, and leads toward confession, mercy, and change.
Clarity
Agree with God about sin
David does not hide behind circumstances. He appeals to God’s mercy and acknowledges that his sin is ultimately against God.
Specific confession is more useful than vague shame. Name the action, the desire beneath it, and the people harmed.

Grace
Refuse both minimization and hopelessness
Truth says sin is serious; grace says Jesus Christ is the sufficient advocate and atoning sacrifice. Neither denial nor self-condemnation is repentance.
We do not earn cleansing by using severe language about ourselves. We receive mercy and turn toward obedience.

Fruit
Let changed words produce changed practices
Repentance replaces falsehood with truth, destructive speech with what builds up, stealing with honest work and generosity, and bitterness with forgiving grace.
When words have harmed someone, repair may require apology, correction, restitution, changed access, or accepted consequences.

Carry the idea into life.
- Replace one excuse with a specific confession.
- Ask what obedient practice must replace the sin.
- Seek wise counsel about repairing harm without creating additional danger.
